See You Later

Hey. Don't freak out
But I'm not one
to tell you lies. So
just listen for a
second. I wanted
to tell you that I
"love you", but that
would sound corny,
the line of some
dying hero in one
of those B-movies
we watched on my
old TV years ago.
You sitting on my
lap and pointing
out how stupid those
lines were. Laughing
through your mom's
death, our best
friend's wedding,
the ring for the
engagement that
never turned to
marriage. I knew
that you didn't
ever mean it. All I
want to tell you
is "Goodbye", and
"I wish it worked"
but how many lines
in those old movies
would that fit? That
would alone get a
good laugh from you,
had it been a few
years ago and our
lives been ahead
of us. But we both
did too many stupid
things, and even good
mistakes must end.
So, as we ended all
our nights together
which always went
til morning coffee,
"See you later".
