Looking back

It was night.
"I love you" she
said, from the doorway
to the right door of his truck.
She couldn't look at
his face anymore.
"Because you will
leave. Because you
will be gone."
His face darkened and
he stared back into her
elusive face, shadowed
and mysterious.
For a second he thought,
then smiled and
quietly placed his left
hand on the lock,
through his open
window, and pulled.
A familiar click.
He opened the door,
and sat next to her
and they drove away.

Hours past, and she
stood there, looking at
where his her was, hours
before. She stood and
remembered further and
further into the past.

Goodbye.
