that Chance
When he thought about that Chance
He thought
That Chance had ended, so long
ago
it felt more like a moment
of someone else's life,
maybe
more important to that person
but not to me, not anymore.
But there
was no grounding in truth
for such a miracle
to have perished, and to
have broken a spirit
once so hopeful
and so
when He thought
truthfully
seriously
about it,
that Chance
he was frozen by
the fact that it had
gone,
and what had
remained was but
a candle's light,
the faint, orange
glow, a ghost
trapped in another
machine,
nebula, or more
at least, too far
away,
at least a
lifetime away, in
another karmic
journey, with
a when that
well
that Chance had
been something more
powerful.
And
so had he, a man
who was no longer
left to grasp at
the straws
that Life, was no
longer just a chance.
