A most confused method of escape
Can you wait by the door?
The rattletrap click-clack, train
tracks, or second hands, as
we whispered. Water's dull opacity
Silence, forgiveness, reclusive to
our witness, eyes met and the
distance took. Neither here
nor there, so did characters
walk amongst us and behind
Could you wait just a little more?
Simultaneously squinting, dropped
far above cloudtops, escaping
tears but not the cold. Where
and when and how, so much
is spoken but left unsaid, and
a drunken spirit shot angry
threats towards the sky, somehow
through a trainroof, through the
smiling, grandfather metal
and dead-leaf covered concrete.
Please don`t leave.
My imagination could not perceive
the changes in me, surrounding
the me who I was, the run of
my socks, that all I could think
of was myself, and not the
mutual end that had taken place
when only I had known its joy.
Fine then, do what you please.
